How to get rich

Believe it or not, I finished Donald Trump's book "How to get rich" already. Well, I must admitt, I cheated. The book has 250+ pages, however the last 100 pages don't really have anything to do with the title, so I barely scimmed through these.

Overall I think the book is worthwile reading, easy to read and gives quite a bit of good advice, at least for the first 150 pages, the rest I can't really talk about.

So now I can go onto reading my next book. I don't know yet which one it might be, but chances are "The compound effect" by Darren Hardy. Stay tune.

Great Seminar

This morning I went to this great seminar by Bruce Keith "My Success GPS... The right roadmap for 2013". It was a great start for a great day. The seminar reminded us about how important it is to set our golas, personal and professional, to create a roadmap how to get there by breaking it down into managable pieces and how to stay on track so that we don't get too distructed and loose focus.

I always enjoy going to seminars and I personally think it is important so I keep on learning and stay on top of new developments, trends and other things.

Sometimes you need to hit rock bottom to realize that you lost your focus.

Currently I am reading the book “How to get rich” by Donald Trump. So far this book had already quite a few good points, ideas and inspirations for me. But there was something in particular that stood out to me, maybe because I somehow was able to relate very well to it since I went through a similar experience. Of course with Donald Trump everything is much bigger and my situation compared to his was miniscular, but the principles are similar.

He wrote about that at some point he completely failed in his business since he did not focus. He was in debt with 9.2 Billion Dollars and couldn’t make his interest payments any more. He realized why he fell so far from being so far on the top. He lost focus and didn’t pay attention his business any more. But instead of getting defeated by this it made him stronger and he renounced and his business became even bigger. He didn’t let this situation defeat him, but he took it as an inspiration to get back on track.

I think there is a great lesson to be learned for a lot of us. We might face obstacles, hurdles challenges and they might bring us even to the lowest point in our life, but instead of giving up and putting our head in the sand, we should look at it as a challenge and an inspiration to emerge stronger, bigger and better.

Another month, another book

As I discussed before, one of my goals for this year is to read at least one inspiring book a month. So far I followed through. I used to like to read, but then I lost focus, there was just so much to read every day for work, that eventually I neglected to read what really should have been important to me, books that inspire me. It doesn't always have to be about business and money, but about things that are dear to you, inspire you to become better at something, give you ideas how you can improve in a certain field. I chose to read books about business, money and wealth creation. I must say, it started bringing me again on track to focus to become better in my field.

You might say, you are a realtor, so why would books about business and wealth creation make me better in my field? It is quite simple, first of all, real estate, business and wealth creation are very closely related. Second of all, in all these books there are a lot of things which might not be directly related to my field of business, however the overall ideas are the same and can be used in other fields as well. The other thing is, look at it closely, most of the wealthiest people also have a lot of real estate investments. So by learning from them, what they do and how they do it, not only can I create something for myself and my family, but I can assist my investor clients better as well.

This month's or I should say February's title is "How to get rich" by Donald Trump. I just started it today and of the 250+ pages I read already almost 60. It is a really easy book to read and can be read very fast. It has a lot of "stories", which makes it even easier to read, but what matters most is it has a lot of tips and hints about how to do things. I liked the quote from Abraham Lincoln very much, that is pertinent to management: “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power. Something to really take into consideration. Use power for good use not to rein over others and make their life miserable.

Learning is a continuous need

Especially in these times it is important to stay on top of your knowledge and do continuous education. By continuous education I dont just refere to education in your field of employment, but as well, general education and how to use your income wisely by investing it so it can bring you additional income.

There are a lot of good books out there teaching us and giving us good ideas on how to get ahead and to earn additional income. Unfortunatunately most of us are just working to be able to pay our bills. I recommend to read books like "The Millionairs Mind" or "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", they give excellent ideas what to do to get ahead and get additional income.

I personally am a great supporter to invest in Real Estate, in particular in our Area in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, where the real estate prices have been going up continuously since our local economy is quite stable and diverse. Here an investment property is an excellent choice. The lease pays for the mortgage, taxes, other costs and even some profit. The increase of value additionally is an added bonus.

Just something to think about.

Mild weather increases interest in Real Estate

The mild weather over the last few days resulted in more interest in real estate. My open houses this weekend were very well attended, much more than in average around this time of year.

If you are thinking of listing your property soon, I recommend doing so now, since the buyers around this time of the year are quality buyers, which are very serious and since there are not too many listings, the competition of other properties is low at the same time.

First On Site Renovations

I have a client who just got a judgment against First On Site Renovations. He acted for them as a subcontractor on an insurance claim, did a major job for them and never got paid, even after several promises. He was left with no other recourse than suing them. Now finally he has a judgment. Sad to see, that a large company like this is trying to stiff a smaller subcontractor, what could cost his livelihood.
